liveby Technical Interviews

For candidates. You have been invited to a Live interview. Here is exactly what happens.

This page is for you, not for the company that invited you. It describes what is recorded, what is assessed, what is deliberately not assessed, and what you can ask for. Nothing here is different from what you will be shown before the interview starts.

The short version

It is one round, not the whole process

Live runs a first-round technical interview. A person at the company decides what happens next. The software never rejects anyone.

You can say no

There is a visible option to decline the automated interview and ask for a human one. Using it is not recorded as a negative and does not remove you from consideration.

Your name is hidden from the scoring

The part of the system that produces your scores has no access to your name, email, school or employer. That is a database permission, not a policy.

What happens, in order

You get a link

It works on any device and you can open it as many times as you like before you begin. Opening it does not start the interview or the clock.

A lobby, before anything is recorded

Camera and microphone check, a plain description of what is assessed, your rights in your jurisdiction, and separate consent for recording and for automated evaluation. Neither is pre-ticked. Nothing is captured until you continue past this screen. The interview is then recorded, audio and video.

The interview

25 to 60 minutes depending on the type. You can ask the interviewer to repeat or rephrase anything at any time, with no effect on your score. There is one three-minute break available, and taking it is not held against you.

It ends, and you are told what happens next

Who receives the report, how long your data is kept, and how to request deletion. You are not shown a score, because the score is the employer’s to interpret and act on.

Assessed, and not assessed

The right-hand list is the more important one.

What is assessed

  • How you break down an unfamiliar problem
  • Whether you name the trade-offs you are making
  • How deep your knowledge goes when followed up on
  • How clearly you explain your reasoning
  • The code or the design you actually produce

What is never assessed

  • Your face, your expressions, or your appearance. There is no facial analysis of any kind, and no emotion or attention inference
  • Your accent, your fluency, or how fast you speak
  • Your name, your photograph, your school, or your previous employers
  • Anything inferred about your age, race, sex, disability or nationality
  • Whether you seemed confident

Is the interview recorded?Yes. Live records the interview, audio and video, and you agree to that separately in the lobby before anything is captured. The recording is kept for the period the company sets, 12 months by default and as short as 30 days, and you can ask for it to be deleted. The report the company gets has the transcript and a timeline that jumps to each quote a score cites, and the recording is kept with it. The scoring system receives the transcript as text and, for a System Design interview, your final whiteboard as text. It never receives the audio or the video, and nothing analyzes your face, expression or emotion.

What you can ask for

RightHow
A human interview insteadThe decline link on the consent screen. It notifies the hiring manager and is logged. You do not have to give a reason.
An accommodationRequested before you start. Extra time is available. Assistance signals are planned and not built yet; when they ship, the timing-based ones will be switched off for your session where an accommodation is granted, so it cannot count against you.
More time to take itIf your deadline has passed, the expired link offers you one self-service extension without needing to email anyone.
To see what was collectedYour consent record, what was captured, and who accessed it.
DeletionA self-service request, completed within 30 days including backups. You get a receipt listing what was actually deleted.
To contest the resultA documented route to a named human at the employer. When assistance signals ship, a confirmed flag will mean you are told and get a route to respond.

Questions people actually ask

Is a person going to look at this at all?

Yes. The report is written for a human to read and act on, and the software cannot reject you. If nobody at the company opens it, that is a failure of their process.

Will using notes or an AI assistant be detected?

Not today. An estimate of whether outside help was used is planned and not built yet. When it ships it will send a session to a person rather than act on it, it will never reject anyone or change your score, and if a flag is confirmed you will be told and get a right of reply.

I am nervous and I speak slowly. Does that hurt me?

Communication is one of four dimensions and carries 15 or 20 percent depending on the interview, never more. The scorer reads a transcript of what was said, not the audio, so accent and speaking pace are not inputs to it.

My connection dropped. Did I lose the interview?

If your connection drops during the interview, open the same link again straight away to rejoin. If you are away too long, the interview ends. If it ends because of a technical failure on our side, the employer is not charged for it.

Can I see my own report?

That is the employer’s choice, not ours. What you can always get is your consent record, the data collected about you, and deletion.

Will this follow me to other companies?

No. There is no cross-company candidate record and there never will be. A company using Live cannot learn that you interviewed anywhere else on the platform.
